Me Made May is coming to an end, and this year it has been timed perfectly…
Earlier this year we moved out of our house, and packed 80% of our stuff into a storage container. The rest came with us to my parent’s house. Gary and I moved into my old bedroom, which has very little storage space, or even walking space! My sewing machines moved into Mum’s sewing room, but remained under the table until the point that I wanted to use them.
Now, I am used to commuting, but Gary has been staying between my parent’s home and his friend’s house. They are so kind letting him stay, but not having his own space makes him feel like he is invading/floating/anxious!
All this extra stress (read: through the roof stress) has meant that my desire to sew has been at absolutely zero… Weekends have become consumed with “quality time together” and shopping for the house items that we now need seen as the house is bigger!
I have joined in with Zoe’s event, Me Made May, since I first came across it two May’s ago. The first year I just wanted to wear as much Me Made clothes as possible, but last year and this year I have endeavoured to wear me made clothes every day.
Due to 80% of our stuff being in storage, I have struggled this year, and had to repeat quite a lot of my outfits throughout May. Especially the weekend outfits. I have also missed a lot of my clothes; namely my two pairs of Winslow Culottes!
But one major benefit for me was that it made me appreciate how often I do wear these clothes, and how they are the staple of my wardrobe! It has also made me proud of the clothes I have made, and time I have put into each item. The process also resulted in me sewing some culottes on the bank holiday weekend… thank goodness for the extra days off.
So, all I have to say is thank goodness for Me Made May!
I will do better next year, but right now I am just happy to have regained my enjoyment in sewing. I will post the culottes in the next few days once they have been hemmed.
Hope everyone else enjoyed Me Made May!
Love, Abigail x
